FAQ

What is your usual turnaround time?

It depends on the type of work involved and how many guitars I am working on at the moment. Though I will always do everything I can to get your guitar back to you as soon as I can without sacrificing the quality of my work. I know what it’s like to have your beloved axe away from you! It can be like missing a part of you. But it will come back to you better than before. And in the meantime I will treat it with respect and care.

Where are you located

I am located at

2013 Monument Ave Apt#3

Richmond ,VA 23220

I run my shop out of my apartment. It’s right off of monument so it’s pretty easy to find. The lower overhead of living and working in the same space means I can keep my prices down and I can keep the guitars safe and with me at all times. Right now my partner teaches music lessons (Open Hearts Music) and we have an online record store out of this space as well. As we grow that may change but at the moment it’s working great!

How does payment work?

You pay once you get your guitar back and are completely satisfied with it. I can take Venmo, Cash or Credit Card.

What kinds of tools do you use?

In the world of guitar repair and guitar modification there are so many guitar specific tools out there! And just as many brands. Over time I have come to favor “Music Nomad” “Lizard Spit” for cleaning supplies and “StewMac”. Ive tried so many brands over the years and you definitely get what you may for with these tools. That said, there are many times where you don’t need a guitar specific tool. In those cases I tend to go with “Craftsman” tools.

How do I get this tone?

This is my favorite question of all. This is the question that makes me love doing this so much. A lot goes into to tone but the two biggest things are your amp and your pickups. That’s not to say that there aren’t other contributing factors. Your bridge type definitely plays a role. But finding the right pickups is definitely the best way to get you on the road to capturing that amazing sound in your head. I have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to pickups. However, it is impossible to know everything. But I am always happy to work with you and do some research to help get your guitar exactly what it needs!

What is a good action height?

That depends of your own musical style and personal preferences. One of the first questions I ask everyone is what kind of music do you like to play? That informs a lot of decisions I make while setting up their guitar. My personal preference for action height is about 5/64 of an inch on the low E and 4/64 on the high E for electric.

6/64 to 5/64 for acoustic.

What do you specialize in?

My favorite repairs to do are electronics repairs. I just love getting into circuits both old and new and seeing how they work and fixing problems with my soldering iron. But I can do pretty much anything other than woodworking or full refrets. At this point I just don’t have the tools or the space to do those kinds of repairs. I usually refer people to OneThree guitars if they need those kinds of repairs done. They are a great shop located not too far away from where I am.
